B-Carrots
On our organic farm we only grow B carrots. These carrots are no longer than 20 cm long and weigh between 50 and 250 g. We can supply carrots in bulk directly from our farm, in boxes or washed, graded and packed in various sizes and packages.
In March, we cut off the weeds and level off the field where carrots will be grown to create a level seedbed. To do this we use a seedbed combination at the front and rear of the tractor. In April ridges are created using a rotary ridger. This machine is steered by RTK-GPS for maximum efficiency. During the month of May, the field is burned down to kill any weeds that have emerged. As soon as the first major flight of carrot fly has passed the carrot crop is sown in June by a contractor. Just before the emergence of the crop we once more burn the weeds off the field. During the months of July and August we use a special disk hoe for weed control and to ridge up the carrot ridges again. In addition, we also weed by hand using a special 'bed' which makes the job more comfortable and easier. A contractor harvests the carrots October or November using a special carrot harvester. After the carrots have been lifted, they are stored in boxes and cooled down to a temperature of between 0 and 1°C. To prevent the crop from dehydrating we use evaporators in our storage facilities.
