Celeriac
Our celeriac is grown for both the fresh market and long-term storage. We can grade, wash and pack the products that are sold fresh ourselves. The bulbs can be delivered loose, in boxes, big bags or sacks (2 - 25kg). We can also pack them per eight or ten in crates.
Preparations for the celeriac crop begin in February. We then decide which varieties to grow for the year and order the plants. In March the fields are treated with pig slurry by using an umbilical system. During April the seedbed is prepared and any weeds are killed off. A contractor plants the celeriac seedlings mid-April using a special planter. In a dry period the crop is irrigated immediately after planting. When the plants have formed their first roots the crop is hoed using a finger weeder. The crop is harvested in November using a converted beet harvester from a contractor. The celeriac is stored in our mechanical box storage facilities. The products are being kept cool at a temperature of 2°C and quality can be maintained up to May.
